Nasir Ahmad Faiq: Targeted Killings of Shia Persist Without Intervention or Accountability

RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the acting permanent representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, stated that targeted attacks against Shia and civilians in Afghanistan continue without accountability or intervention from the relevant authorities. The acting permanent representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations issued this statement on his X account today, Tuesday, April 30, in response to last night’s attack by armed men on worshipers at the Imam Zaman Mosque in Guzara, Herat. He condemned the “targeted attacks” against Shia communities and civilians in Afghanistan.

Nasir Ahmad Faiq wrote, “Targeted attacks against Shia in Afghanistan, including the killing of children and innocent people in mosques, are strongly condemnable.” Faiq added that “unfortunately, these attacks continue without prevention, investigation, or accountability, despite the Taliban’s claims of ensuring security in Afghanistan.”

Local Taliban officials stated that six people lost their lives in the attack; however, local sources reported that among the victims were four women and a child. Notably, no group has claimed responsibility for this incident so far.

Previously, Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Taliban governor of Herat, published a book in 2021 in which he described Shia as “heretics and enemies of infidels.” The book, titled “Mabahith fi al-Aqida al-Maturidiya al-Musamma Mu’tamad Maturidi min Mu’taqad Maturidi” in Arabic, was widely distributed in libraries and bookstores throughout Afghanistan.
