RASC News Agency: In response to the attack on Shia worshipers in Herat, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has called for immediate measures to protect Shia communities in the country. UNAMA made this statement on Tuesday, April 30, through a social media post on X, condemning the attack.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan stated: “Investigations, accountability for the perpetrators, and protective measures for Afghanistan’s Shia community are of utmost urgency.” Last night, unidentified gunmen attacked worshipers in the “Mohammadieh” township in Herat, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including four men, a child, and a woman. Two others were injured.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but reports indicate that ISIS has consistently claimed responsibility for attacks against Shia communities in various parts of the country. In response to the armed attack on the Shia mosque in Herat, the Iranian embassy in Kabul announced that Tehran would collaborate with the Taliban to combat terrorism in Afghanistan.
