U.S. Embassy for Afghanistan: Freedom of the Press Is a Pillar of Society

RASC News Agency: The U.S. Embassy for Afghanistan, currently operating from Qatar, recently emphasized that freedom of the press is a fundamental pillar of society. In advance of World Press Freedom Day on Monday evening, April 28, the U.S. Embassy for Afghanistan launched the hashtag “Press Freedom, Access to Information” on the X platform.

The embassy underscored the critical role of press freedom in the country, noting that the media amplify the voices of individuals. May 3 is celebrated as World Press Freedom Day. Meanwhile, the Taliban have imposed stringent restrictions on the media during their nearly three-year rule over the country, detaining, imprisoning, and torturing journalists.

Reports indicate that the Taliban’s restrictions on media activities have led to the closure of several outlets and the unemployment of numerous journalists.
