RASC News Agency: Local sources from Badakhshan province have reported that Qari Abdul Basir, the official of a Taliban jihadist school in the city of Fayzabad, has been detained by the group’s intelligence on charges of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. Sources informed the media on Monday, Apr 8, that Qari Abdul Basir allegedly sexually assaulted one of his female students in the village of Dasht-e Qargh, a suburb of Fayzabad, Badakhshan province.

According to sources, this Taliban school official was arrested yesterday after the girl’s family lodged a complaint against him. Sources narrate that the victim of this incident is currently “pregnant.” Local Taliban authorities in Badakhshan have yet to officially comment on the matter.

Taliban members have previously faced allegations of sexual assault. In one instance in the month of August last year, reports emerged accusing Qari Ahmadullah, the deputy governor of the Taliban in Ashkamish, of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old girl.
