RASC News Agency: Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, has asserted in his latest remarks that American citizens in Afghanistan have been unjustly detained and imprisoned, and his country is endeavoring to secure their release. Miller delivered these remarks unexpectedly on Thursday, Mar 28, during a press briefing following Michael McCaul’s concern, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, regarding the dire situation of Ryan Corbett, an American citizen detained by the Taliban.

He expressed, “What I can convey to the American people on behalf of the government is that we are diligently working every day to bring Ryan Corbett home.” The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State further added that representatives of the country prioritize the immediate and unconditional release of Ryan Corbett and other American citizens imprisoned by this group in their meetings with the Taliban.

Miller underscored that Corbett’s situation is “heartbreaking” and appended, “We have unequivocally conveyed to the Taliban that these detentions impede constructive engagement with the group.” This American official emphasized that the United States is utilizing every means to repatriate Ryan and other unjustly detained Americans from Afghanistan.

The Taliban detained Corbett in August 2022, and he has been incarcerated for 600 days, with reports indicating his deteriorating health conditions. The Taliban has yet to furnish any explanation regarding this American citizen.
