RASC News Agency: After the United Nations Security Council extended UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan, Amnesty International declared its endorsement of this measure. In a statement issued on Friday night, March 15th, via Amnesty International’s social media platform, the organization urged the head of UNAMA to concentrate its objectives in the current calendar year on the rights of women, girls, minorities, and the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Reacting to the extension of UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan, the organization articulated its call for Rosa Otunbayeva, the head of UNAMA, to prioritize addressing the country’s human rights emergency, focusing on the rights of women, girls, minorities, and the humanitarian crisis. Amnesty International emphasized the crucial role of UNAMA’s monitoring and reporting on the human rights situation in Afghanistan.
According to the organization, UNAMA must persist in its robust and recurrent public reporting on human rights and exert pressure on the Taliban to rescind restrictive decrees against the rights of women and girls. It is noteworthy that the United Nations Security Council announced last night the extension of UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan for another year through the adoption of a unanimously endorsed resolution.
In line with this resolution, the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has been prolonged until March 17, 2025.
