RASC News Agency: Sima Bahous, the head of the UN Women’s section, asserted in her latest remarks that Afghanistan continues to grapple with the most severe women’s rights crisis under Taliban rule. Bahous addressed this issue on Tuesday, Mar 12, during the sixty-eighth session of the UN Women’s Commission held at the organization’s headquarters.

She underscored the imperative for ongoing efforts to enable women’s involvement in consequential decisions concerning Afghanistan. Throughout this session, the head of the UN Women’s section acknowledged insights from Afghanistani women regarding their perception of security. The sixty-eighth session of the UN Women’s Commission, convened by the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the Overseas Development Institute, and the Research and Development Institution, convened at the UN headquarters.

The focal point of this session was security through the lens of women and girls in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. A message disseminated by the United Arab Emirates’ representation on social media highlighted that this session deliberated on the repercussions of poverty on the lives of Afghanistani women and girls and its ramifications.

As per this communication, entrenched poverty in Afghanistan has compelled families to make untenable choices to secure food, leaving women and girls in precarious circumstances.
