RASC News Agency: In his latest remarks, Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, denounced the Taliban’s directives aimed at restricting Afghanistani women and girls, stating that they run counter to the desires of the country’s populace. Blinken articulated these views during the “Afghanistani Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative” meeting held on Tuesday, Feb 27. He underscored that despite such constraints, there exists a robust demand for education and employment among Afghanistani women and girls.

The senior American official condemned the Taliban’s repressive policies toward Afghanistani women under their governance, highlighting that 85 percent of Afghanistan’s population opposes the Taliban’s restrictions on women and girls, advocating for equal educational opportunities. Secretary of State Blinken stressed that excluding women from Afghanistan’s economy is detrimental to the nation, citing the Taliban’s actions as hindrances to Afghanistan’s sustainable development.

Furthermore, he noted that over 70 Asian, European, and American nations have collectively issued a statement calling for substantive measures to empower women. The “Afghanistani Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative” meeting convened in Washington on Monday, drawing participation from various officials of the U.S. Department of State, including Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistani Women’s Affairs, along with a cohort of Afghanistani women activists at the ministry’s headquarters.
