RASC News Agency: Thomas Nicholson, the European Union’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, has recently announced his involvement in the field of drug addiction treatment in Afghanistan. Reports disclosed on Saturday, Feb 24, indicate that Nicholson made these statements upon his return from the Doha talks.

Nevertheless, Nicholson, in connection with efforts to eradicate narcotics in Afghanistan, declared, “The European Union is committed to supporting these endeavors for their sustainability.” This revelation coincides with the European Union’s Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction’s prior disclosure that opium produced in Afghanistan is initially exported to Iran and Pakistan, and subsequent to processing, heroin derived from it is smuggled into European countries.

It is noteworthy that despite the Taliban’s repeated assertions of gathering and rehabilitating addicts throughout Afghanistan, some individuals undergoing rehabilitation have reported encountering various challenges.
