RASC News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has recently announced that 160,000 cases of acute respiratory infections were recorded in Afghanistan in January of the current calendar year. On Monday, Feb 19, UNICEF shared this information with the media in a report, indicating a 16 percent increase in acute respiratory diseases in Afghanistan compared to last year.

Furthermore, UNICEF reports in this document that 62 percent of patients are children under five years old who have contracted acute respiratory infections in Afghanistan due to severe cold and air pollution. This revelation coincides with UNICEF’s previous statement that 9.5 million people in Afghanistan live in areas without access to proper health services.

It is noteworthy that after the Taliban assumed power in Afghanistan, the country’s healthcare sector has faced numerous challenges, underscoring the increased need for assistance from international relief agencies for the country’s citizens.
