RASC News Agency: In his recent remarks, Antony Blinken characterized the Taliban’s governance of Afghanistan as an “extraordinarily dark chapter,” marking the disappearance of girls’ aspirations for the future. The US Secretary of State delivered these comments amidst a gathering of Albanian youths, with the transcript of his speech published on the website of the US Department of State on Thursday, February 15th. He lauded Albania’s efforts in providing refuge to Afghanistani families fleeing from the Taliban.

Addressing the group of Albanian youths, Blinken emphasized, “By aiding these families, you have demonstrated your sincere and resolute commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals.” Reflecting on the aspirations of Afghanistani children he encountered in Albania, Blinken noted that their visit to Albania has rekindled hope within them, which had dimmed during the “exceptionally dark chapter in Afghanistan.”

This situation unfolds as the Taliban imposes extensive constraints on the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan, barring girls beyond the sixth grade from accessing education at schools and universities. Under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, girls are prohibited from employment and involvement in governmental and non-governmental spheres, confronting substantial restrictions on their mobility and exclusion from recreational facilities.
