RASC News Agency: Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, has announced that Tom West and Rina Amiri are designated to represent the country at the Doha meeting. Miller broached the subject on Tuesday, February 13th, articulating steadfast U.S. support for a United Nations Security Council resolution concerning the appointment of a new Special Representative for Afghanistan.
Mr. Miller further emphasized that the United Nations should expedite efforts to appoint a new Special Representative for Afghanistan at the earliest opportunity. He underscored the pivotal role of the Special Representative in facilitating international engagement on Afghanistan and achieving the objectives outlined in the Security Council resolution. The Doha meeting on Afghanistan, presided over by Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and attended by member countries and regional organizations, is slated for February 18th and 19th in Doha.
A representative from the Taliban has also received an invitation to the meeting; however, the group has indicated that their participation hinges on the agenda and content of the gathering. It is noteworthy that despite over two years of Taliban rule in the country, no country has officially recognized the group owing to its repressive policies against citizens, particularly women.
