RASC News Agency: On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Ms. Otunbayeva, the Head of the Office of the Deputy Chief of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), asserted that the world, not only on this day but every day, endeavors to empower women and girls in Afghanistan.

UNAMA, quoting Ms. Otunbayeva, disseminated this message yesterday, Feb 11, through the social media platform X, emphasizing that by empowering women and girls in science in Afghanistan, half of the country’s capacity is poised to address pressing challenges such as combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. UNAMA underscored, “On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and every day, we stand alongside Afghanistani women and girls who strive for education, including in the field of sciences, to confront national and global challenges.”

Earlier, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) also spotlighted the pivotal role of women and girls in the science and technology sector on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This coincides with over two years of Taliban rule, during which girls beyond the sixth grade have been deprived of education, and the group has imposed numerous restrictions on the lives and education of girls in other areas.
