RASC News Agency: The temporary Australian mission for Afghanistan, based in Doha, has declared that the Taliban detain and mistreat women and girls under the pretext of violating the dress code enforced by the group. On Tuesday, Feb 6, the Australian temporary mission for Afghanistan addressed this issue through a social media post, expressing concerns about the actions of the Taliban.

According to this mission, fundamental rights of Afghanistani women must be upheld, emphasizing that the Taliban’s treatment of women is deeply troubling. In a further statement, the Australian temporary mission for Afghanistan highlighted that since early January, the Taliban have detained and severely mistreated women and girls for purported infringements of the group’s dress code.

This concern emerges as the Taliban, in recent weeks, have detained and transported young women and girls from areas north and west of Kabul, purportedly for non-compliance with the group’s dress code. The Taliban’s Ministry of Virtue and Vice has also acknowledged to the media the detention of several women and girls for purported lack of hijab compliance, but has not provided any further official explanation on the matter.
