RASC News Agency: In the backdrop of rising apprehensions regarding the “censorship and suppression of art and poetry” in Taliban group-controlled Afghanistan, a gathering of more than 70 poets and writers from diverse nations convened for an event titled “Global Poetry Night.” The participants eloquently recited poems in various languages, articulating their collective response. This virtual assembly, hosted on the night of Saturday, January 20, by the French Pen Club and the Dawn House of Poetry in Exile, showcased poets from nations including Afghanistan, France, Canada, the United States, Bangladesh, India, Brazil, Argentina, Nepal, the Netherlands, Japan, and Turkey.
The “Dawn House of Poetry in Exile” meticulously curated the poems presented during this session, subsequently publishing them in the “Anthology of World Poetry” entitled “No Prison Can Confine Poetry,” available in both French and Japanese. The recitation of poems from this anthology was a poignant gesture by poets who had earlier united under the banner of the “Dawn House of Poetry in Exile” to provide support to Afghanistani poets grappling with formidable challenges.
Simultaneously, reports underscore that since the Taliban group assumed control of the country, they have implemented repressive measures targeting poetry, art, and poets, stifling their creative expression and curtailing the composition of verses in a freeform style. Moreover, credible reports reveal the Taliban Group’s closure of all institutions associated with arts and music, prompting artists to seek refuge in various countries across the globe.
