RASC News Agency: The confirmation of Indrica Ratwatte’s arrival as the recently appointed Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul has been acknowledged by UNAMA. As delineated in the communique disseminated on Wednesday, January 17th, Ratwatte commenced his tenure in the nation a week prior.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban faction, via their spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi, also publicized on the X social media platform a forthcoming meeting between Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting minister of the ministry, and Indrica Ratwatte. In the course of their discourse, Ratwatte articulated his dedication to enacting efficacious measures in the realms of humanitarian aid and developmental initiatives for the citizens of Afghanistan.

It is noteworthy that Ratwatte, originating from Sri Lanka, has assumed the role formerly occupied by Ramez Elakbarov of Azerbaijan. Ratwatte boasts a wealth of experience exceeding three decades in humanitarian affairs and protection within demanding and critical contexts, encompassing more than 14 years of service in Afghanistan and regional issues with international organizations.

Crucially, Mr. Ratwatte’s appointment transpires at a juncture when Afghanistan grapples with its most acute humanitarian crisis, notably pertaining to hunger and human rights, as per the assessment of the United Nations. The Taliban-administered Afghanistan contends with constrained resources to address the needs of its vulnerable populace, precipitating a diminution in aid from diverse organizations.
