RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s envoy to the United Nations, recently voiced apprehension regarding the surging targeted assaults on Shias and Hazaras. Characterizing these incidents as “questionable,” he vehemently denounced them as deplorable. Faiq delivered these comments on January 12th, addressing the recent events in Dasht-e-Barchi, Kabul, sharing his message on the X social media platform. He underscored the disconcerting surge in attacks, juxtaposed against the Taliban’s purported commitment to ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan.

Elaborating on his statement, Mr. Faiq underscored the stark realities confronting the Afghanistani people. He accentuated the challenges of poverty, unemployment, privacy violations, encroachments on fundamental rights, limited access to quality education, and the absence of security and peace of mind. These persisting issues weigh heavily on the Afghanistani population, impacting men, women, and children alike as they endeavor to surmount these formidable obstacles.

The situation in Afghanistan is progressively worsening, marked by a discernible uptick in suicide and explosive attacks targeting the Shia community, particularly intensifying in the western part of Kabul. The Khorasan branch of ISIS has claimed responsibility for a majority of these incidents, exacerbating the already dire circumstances.

In the latest occurrence, an explosion occurred last Thursday in the Dasht-e-Barchi area, specifically in front of the “Barchi shopping center.” Khaled Zadran, the spokesperson for the Taliban security command, reported that two individuals lost their lives, and twelve others sustained injuries in this incident. The frequency and severity of such attacks underscore the pressing need for heightened security measures and concerted efforts to address the escalating violence in Afghanistan.
