RASC News Agency: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul recently announced the organization of a meeting for special representatives from various countries. This gathering is set to occur in Kabul, the current seat of power for the Taliban group. The Iranian embassy in Kabul disseminated this information through a message on the X social media platform on January 9th, indicating that Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the ambassador and special representative of the Iranian president for Afghanistan affairs, held discussions with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban group, regarding this initiative.
Amir Khan Muttaqi conveyed his support for Iran’s initiative to establish a regional contact group, which would facilitate a joint meeting for the special representatives of regional countries on Afghanistan affairs in Kabul. The Iranian Embassy issued a statement confirming Muttaqi’s favorable response to the initiative. The regional contact group emerged after the fifth meeting of the Moscow format, with the goal of engaging with the Taliban group, coordinating regional matters, and addressing common challenges. However, specific details such as the date, agenda, and objectives of the meeting are yet to be disclosed, leaving everyone eager for further information.
Despite the Taliban group holding power for over two years, no country has officially recognized their authority, citing their failure to fulfill obligations in upholding human rights, especially those of women and girls, and establishing an inclusive government. Reports indicate severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban group on the rights of women and girls, encompassing limitations on access to education, employment in both governmental and non-governmental sectors, and freedom of movement within the country.
