RASC News Agency: According to local sources in Takhar province, the Taliban group’s security commander for the Worsaj district has been arrested following a altercation with a fellow member, resulting in the latter’s injury. Reports from Takhar province disclosed on Friday, January 5, that the clash transpired almost a week ago at the security commander’s office in the Worsaj district between Mullah Meraj, the security commander for Worsaj, and Qari Muhammad Asif, also known as Qari Waqas, the director of the group’s anti-crime efforts.
Sources state that as a consequence of this confrontation among Taliban officials in Takhar, Qari Weqas sustained “severe” injuries and is presently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kunduz. It is noted that Qari Weqas will soon be transferred to Kabul for enhanced medical care. These two Taliban members entered into a dispute when Qari Weqas contested Mullah Meraj, accusing him of causing harassment, extortion, accepting bribes, and embezzling funds from the people of Worsaj district. Despite this incident, local officials of the Taliban group in Takhar have refrained from commenting, even though there have been previous instances of Taliban members in other provinces engaging in conflicts stemming from internal disputes, resulting in casualties.
It is noteworthy that Taliban members in various provinces have faced allegations of administrative corruption and embezzlement previously. In the latest development, intelligence forces of the group detained the head of work and social affairs for the Taliban in Balkh province on charges of embezzlement.
