RASC News Agency: Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban group, recently responded to a request from UNAMA and stated that the arrests made by the group are not arbitrary but are based on Islamic Sharia law. UNAMA expressed its concern over the increasing number of arbitrary arrests on January 3rd on the X social network and urged the Taliban to release those who have been imprisoned. On January 4th, Mr. Mujahid underscored the importance of accurate and comprehensive information in apprehending individuals, highlighting that no one is detained without such crucial details. Furthermore, he emphasized that if someone is arrested through proper legal procedures, it is the authorized judicial bodies that carry out this action.
Despite the Taliban group’s claims of adhering to the law, it is important to note that they have not yet established a new constitution, even after more than two years of their existence. This raises questions about the legitimacy of their actions and the extent to which they truly follow the principles of Islamic Sharia. Furthermore, there have been specific cases of individuals, such as Ahmad Fahim Azimi, Sediqullah Afghan, and Manizha Sediqi, who have been imprisoned by the Taliban for their activism in girls’ education and women’s rights. Additionally, recent reports indicate that the Taliban has arrested several girls in Kabul for not wearing hijab.
During their regime in Afghanistan, the Taliban has consistently enforced their policies and demands on the populace through coercive means. However, their actions, including arbitrary arrests and the lack of progress in establishing a new constitution, raise concerns about their commitment to the well-being and rights of the Afghanistani population. It is crucial for the Taliban to address these concerns and ensure that their actions align with the principles of justice and respect for human rights.
