RASC News Agency: Reports from Zabul province on Monday, January 1st, confirmed the tragic death of a young girl who fell into a deep well in the “Ghabarga Safid” area, located in the province’s center. The well, estimated to be approximately 90 meters deep, presented a formidable challenge for rescue teams from Helmand and Kandahar provinces, who swiftly responded to the scene. Despite their earnest efforts, they were unable to save the girl, and she tragically succumbed before retrieval from the well.

The local officials of the Taliban group in Zabul province have acknowledged the incident, indicating the successful recovery of the child’s body shortly after her demise. Regrettably, they have not disclosed any information regarding the girl’s age. Notably, such incidents have previously unfolded in Zabul province, claiming the lives of its residents, particularly children. The recurrent occurrence is intensified by the depletion of deep wells across various provinces due to consecutive droughts in recent years, posing an ongoing threat to the lives of citizens, especially the young population.

The lack of proper construction and maintenance of these wells, coupled with the delayed response of rescue committees, exacerbates the situation. Citizens’ negligence in ensuring the safety of these structures, along with the failure to promptly initiate rescue operations, contributes to the challenges in preserving lives in such circumstances. It is imperative for authorities and communities to prioritize citizen safety, taking proactive measures to avert similar tragic incidents in the future.
