RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has recently issued a plea for the release of Manizha Seddiqi, who has been incarcerated for nearly three months since her arrest. Samira Hamidi, the South Asia campaigner for Amnesty International, underscored the imperative of liberating not just Seddiqi but also other advocates for women’s rights. In a statement conveyed on December 26th via the X social network platform, Hamidi emphasized the positive development of Parisa Azada’s release from Taliban custody, serving as an encouraging signal.
Manizha Seddiqi was apprehended by the Taliban in Kabul city on October 9th and subsequently detained. Notably, Neda Parwani, Julia Parsi, and Parisa Azada were recently released by the Taliban after enduring months of detainment. Despite the substantial outcry from Afghanistan and the international community regarding the Taliban’s detention of women protesters, the group persists in disregarding these concerns.
It is crucial to highlight that the Taliban’s treatment of women protesters during their two-year rule in Afghanistan has been characterized by violence and oppression. They have systematically targeted and killed women protesters for various reasons, alongside subjecting them to arrests, torture, and, in certain instances, imprisonment. The ongoing confinement of Manizha Seddiqi and other defenders of women’s rights underscores the urgent necessity for their release and the safeguarding of their fundamental rights.
The present state of affairs within the country is profoundly disconcerting as the Taliban group perpetuates oppressive control. Serious allegations have been raised by citizens against Taliban members, believed to be involved in diverse criminal activities. However, the absence of a proper judicial department within this faction impedes any investigation into their actions.
