RASC News Agency: Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has elucidated the profound security challenges confronting the nation due to the Pakistani Taliban movement and its affiliated organizations. Addressing a session of the United Nations Security Council convened to deliberate on UNAMA’s report on Afghanistan, Akram underscored the prevalence of numerous terrorist groups in Afghanistan that receive support from the Taliban. He affirmed that Pakistan grapples with an overwhelming terrorism challenge, resulting in a significant loss of lives among its citizens and soldiers.
During this assembly, Akram accentuated that these terrorist organizations orchestrate organized attacks within Pakistan. This Pakistani diplomat at the United Nations added that this predicament poses a multifaceted and enduring challenge for Pakistan. These organizations now wield modern weaponry, underscoring the imperative for the United Nations to scrutinize how contemporary military arms have fallen into the possession of these groups. The Pakistani representative emphasized that any policy engaging with the Taliban must be grounded in the group’s actions against terrorist entities. He cautioned that a failure to do so could lead to a scenario reminiscent of September 11, posing a threat not only to the region but to the entire world.
Furthermore, the Pakistani representative at the United Nations insisted that the Taliban must revoke restrictions on women’s rights to work and education, thereby granting Afghanistani girls and women access to education. These pronouncements come at a time when various global entities and officials have expressed concerns about the presence and activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan under the influence of the Taliban, despite the group consistently denying such claims.
