RASC News Agency: The conclusion of discussions between the US special representative for Afghanistan, officials from Qatar, the United Nations, and Afghanistan on diverse Afghanistan matters in Doha has been recently disclosed. In a post on social media on Monday night, December 11th, Thomas West underscored the positive nature of these talks, particularly emphasizing education, the protection of Afghanistani refugees, and the humanitarian needs of Afghanistan. Elaborating on his statement, the US special representative for Afghanistan expressed appreciation to Qatar’s foreign minister for their commitment to assisting Afghanistani individuals, particularly in the realm of education.
During his recent journey, Mr. West engaged in substantive discussions with key individuals on pressing matters related to Afghanistani refugees and the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Notably, he met with Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs; Niels Annen, an official from the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development; and Tariq Mahmoud Ahmed, representing the British Foreign Office. These discussions aimed to address the challenges faced by Afghanistani refugees and illuminate the overall humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
In addition to these crucial meetings, Thomas West dedicated a significant portion of his trip to engaging with Afghanistani citizens in Doha. These interactions provided a valuable platform for exchanging perspectives on critical issues such as expanding opportunities for work, education, and the active participation of both women and men in Afghanistani society.
Although Mr. West had previously announced his intention to meet with American partners and international officials to discuss various matters related to Afghanistan, including the situation of Afghanistani refugees in Pakistan, these discussions with Afghanistani citizens in Doha added a unique dimension to his trip, further enriching the dialogue surrounding Afghanistan’s future.
