RASC News Agency: Reports from Dasht-e-Barchi in Kabul city indicate that the Taliban has coercively extorted two thousand Kabuli rupees, the current currency of Afghanistan, from local families. Allegedly, this money is earmarked for emigrants deported from Pakistan. On December 11th, sources revealed that the Taliban distributed a form titled “Help Form for Migrants” in the 13th and 18th districts of Kabul city. The group’s municipal authorities and mosques are purportedly instructing residents to pay this sum, employing various tactics to secure compliance.
Residents of Dasht-e-Barchi have been warned by the Taliban that non-compliance with this financial demand will result in forceful actions. The group insists that residents adhere to their demand and surrender the specified amount. This incident is not the first instance of the Taliban resorting to such coercive methods against citizens in various provinces of Afghanistan. They have previously extracted funds from the populace under different pretexts, utilizing force as a means to achieve their objectives.
In a prior incident, the Taliban forcibly collected funds from teachers, students, and employees of the education department in Daykundi province, ostensibly for assisting earthquake victims in Herat. It is noteworthy that the economic plight of the people is already dire, yet the Taliban persists in exploiting them for their own gain. The group faces substantial economic challenges since assuming control of the country, and the compelled deportation of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan and Iran has further compounded their difficulties.
