RASC News Agency: The power distribution company, Breshna, operating under the administration of the Taliban group, has recently announced a 50% reduction in the imported electricity from Uzbekistan to 11 provinces of the country for a single day. According to a press release issued by this Taliban-affiliated company, the objective of the 50% reduction in electricity for specific provinces on December 3rd is to facilitate the restoration of Uzbekistan’s imported power facilities.
The press release from this Taliban-affiliated company highlights that the highest rates of power outages are observed in industrial parks, sub-stations in Khulm and Khenjan, and in the provinces of Samangan, Parwan, Kabul, Panjshir, Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Paktia, and Khost. However, on November 23rd, the Taliban group had previously announced a 50% reduction in imported electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan for one day, citing the reconstruction of Uzbekistan’s power facilities.
It is noteworthy that Afghanistan primarily fulfills its electricity needs from neighboring countries, especially Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It is worth mentioning that with the onset of winter each year, power shortages escalate in various provinces of the country. Moreover, it is crucial to highlight that power outages in various provinces, as per available information, result in financial setbacks for certain traders and industrialists whose businesses depend on this matter.
Furthermore, it should be noted that decades of conflict and war between the forces of the previous government and the Taliban group have inflicted serious damage on the country’s infrastructure, particularly the foundational elements of the power grid.
