RASC News Agency: As military offensives by the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front against the Taliban intensify across the country, the leader of these fronts asserts that the Taliban’s presence in the political arena, marked by illegitimacy, is not a novel concern. The Taliban have come and gone in the past, and they will undoubtedly be overthrown once again. General Yasin Zia, former Chief of Staff of the Afghanistan army, stated in an interview with a Russian-language newspaper that the Taliban’s tribal and oppressive behavior towards the Afghanistani people has fueled the increasing resistance against this group.
The leader of the Afghanistan Freedom Front, referring to the defeat of the Nazis in World War II against the Russian army, likened the fight against the Taliban to what the Russians did against the Nazis in the Siege of Saint Petersburg. The Afghanistan Freedom Front, which has recently released footage of its military operations against Taliban military bases in Kabul, Pul-e Khumri, and Laghman, depicts its soldiers using both light and heavy weaponry to carry out three distinct attacks in Kabul, resulting in the deaths of nine armed Taliban militants and the injury of five others. Similar attacks in the provinces of Baghlan and Laghman have also inflicted casualties upon members of this group. When asked by a Russian journalist whether the Afghanistan Freedom Front receives external support in its fight against the Taliban, the leader stated, “In 2023, the Afghanistan Freedom Front does the same as the Russians did in 1941 against the Nazi Germans. Do we need permission from other countries for such an act? Whom did the Russians seek permission from to protect their homeland from the Nazis? Which country supported them? Our situation is exactly the same. We defend our homeland against an enemy that has no difference from the Nazis.” Yasin Zia further adds that Afghanistan might be one of the few countries in the world that has never attained political stability, with successive political systems toppling one another.
Regarding the current situation in Afghanistan, the leader stated, “Today’s chaotic situation reflects the illegitimate policies imposed by the Taliban. This group has disregarded all international commitments of Afghanistan, including membership in valid conventions on economic, social, and cultural rights.” Former Chief of Staff highlights the Taliban’s ruthless treatment of women in Afghanistan, removing them from the political and social scene.
Commenting on Afghanistan under Taliban rule, General Zia states, “The Taliban associate members of the previous government with brutal massacres, pursuit, torture, and harassment. They exploit the country’s natural resources, extorting people who cannot afford day and night expenses in the name of taxes. They forcibly displace indigenous people, conducting field trials as part of their daily approach, dismantling people’s privacy. However, how can we define the political situation?” This former military official has reiterated that the Taliban group has turned Afghanistan into a safe haven for the terrorist groups, a full-blown hell, and a large prison for its citizens, creating a distorted and isolated image of the country in the international arena. He adds that over the past 20 years, the Taliban have fought against the government with “direct support from certain countries and intelligence organizations, undermining the nascent political order and the democracy experiment. Poverty, ignorance, and cultural and social between both side of Durand line, imbalances have provided fertile ground for their recruitment from disadvantaged and marginalized classes, using religious beliefs, ultimately occupying the country in a clandestine deal.”
The leader of the Afghanistan Freedom Front vehemently expresses these statements against the Taliban, while members of this opposition front have recently increased their covert operations on major highways against Taliban strongholds, sharing documentary footage daily on the internet.
