RASC News Agency: The Ministry of Economy of the Taliban group recently responded to the report by the United States institute of peace, dismissing it as baseless and malicious. However, the Ministry’s claims seem to contradict the grim reality experienced by the Afghanistani people.
In a statement released on November 19th, the Taliban’s Ministry of Economy boasted about supposed achievements and advancements made in Afghanistan’s economy under their control. They highlighted factors such as reduced inflation rates, stable currency value, increased national revenue and exports, and the ability to cover expenses and fund development projects with domestic income instead of relying on foreign aid. This, they claimed, indicated tangible progress and significant economic activities within Afghanistan.
However, it is important to acknowledge that these claims are being made while the Taliban’s control over the country has wrought havoc on the economic, military, and political infrastructures that were once in place. Afghanistani citizens are constantly grappling with the desire to flee their homeland due to the dire circumstances they face. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the World Bank has also warned about the impending collapse of Afghanistan’s economy under Taliban rule. The country’s various sectors have been plagued by severe crises, some of which are a result of the marginalization of women from the workforce.
Recalling previous reports from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), it is evident that the Taliban predominantly exploits aid for their own benefit, further exacerbating the dire situation faced by the Afghanistan people. In light of this information, the Ministry’s dismissal of the United States institute of peace’s report as baseless appears to be an attempt to present an alternate reality that starkly contrasts with the hardships faced by the Afghanistan population.
