RASC News Agency: In response to the dire situation faced by pregnant women and children in Herat, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has taken steps to address their urgent needs. The organization recently announced the arrival of 80 tons of essential medication and medical supplies in Kabul, which will be utilized to provide assistance to those affected in Herat.
A statement issued on Monday, UNICEF highlighted that the primary focus of these medications is to cater to the needs of pregnant women and children. It is crucial to ensure that they receive the necessary medical care and attention during this challenging time.
To facilitate this relief effort, the medical assistance has been made possible through funding from the Asian Development Bank.
The distribution of these supplies will have a significant impact on approximately 43,000 households affected by the earthquakes in Herat. The timely arrival of these resources is expected to alleviate the suffering and improve the overall health and well-being of the affected population.
Fran Akiza, the representative of UNICEF in Afghanistan, expressed the importance of this medical equipment, stating, “The supplies that have arrived in Kabul today are a lifeline for thousands of children and families who are in desperate need of immediate and life-saving assistance following the devastating earthquakes.”
Reports have revealed that the recent earthquakes have had a particularly severe impact on pregnant women, with nearly 7,500 of them requiring urgent assistance. The vulnerable condition of pregnant women necessitates immediate attention and comprehensive medical care to ensure their well-being and the health of their unborn children.
Over the past two weeks, Herat province has witnessed some of the deadliest earthquakes, resulting in a significant loss of life. Tragically, women and children have been disproportionately affected by these natural disasters, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive support and aid.
