RASC News Agency: Following the recent seismic disturbances that shook Herat province, causing widespread devastation and numerous injuries, the World Health Organization (WHO) has taken swift action to address the needs of the affected residents. Recognizing the urgent requirement for medical assistance, the WHO has pledged its support to 32,500 individuals who have been impacted by the earthquakes across six districts within the province.
The Afghanistan Department of the WHO has disseminated this crucial information through its various social media platforms, outlining the comprehensive aid provided to the earthquake victims. The organization’s response encompasses essential healthcare provisions, mental rehabilitation services, and a range of customized health packages tailored to meet the diverse needs of those affected.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency recently released a report highlighting the significant toll of the seismic activities, affecting more than 43,000 individuals in total. Notably, among the affected population, approximately 23% are children below the age of five, underscoring the vulnerability and special attention required for this demographic.
It is imperative to acknowledge the prior declaration made by a prominent international aid organization concerning the dire consequences of these earthquakes in Herat province. In particular, the focus was on the profound psychological and emotional distress experienced by women, girls, and children. The urgency for immediate assistance in addressing these mental health challenges cannot be emphasized enough.
Furthermore, the World Food Program has played a crucial role in providing aid to 95,000 victims of the earthquake in Herat. However, it is pertinent to note that the recovery process necessitates more than just emergency assistance. The organization’s resources are being rapidly depleted as it tirelessly continues to distribute food to the affected population. The earthquakes have inflicted extensive damage on the city, resulting in numerous casualties, injuries, and displacements of residents.
