RASC News Agency: The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has successfully constructed a minimum of 20 school buildings in Laghman province, as announced by local officials of the Taliban group. Mawlawi Shah Jahan, the head of education in the province, stated on Saturday, October 21, that the refurbishment of these schools began three months ago. According to the Taliban official, the reconstruction of these buildings incurred a minimum expenditure of 2,800,000 Kabuli rupees, the current currency in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, a group of students in Laghman Province have expressed profound gratitude towards UNICEF for their tireless efforts and have fervently called for an augmentation of aid from international organizations to support Afghanistan’s education sector. These heartfelt sentiments persist despite the significant damage inflicted upon numerous school buildings as a result of years of conflict and warfare between the previous government’s military and the Taliban in various provinces across the country. Notably, the European Union has recently declared a 10 billion-dollar aid package for the primary education sector in Afghanistan, aimed at enhancing student enrollment.
It is noteworthy that the Taliban group has displayed hostility towards female students across Afghanistan since assuming control of the country, imposing a strict prohibition on their access to education. Simultaneously, this stance by the Taliban has garnered significant attention from international organizations, who persistently call for the resumption of education for girls above the sixth grade.
Moreover, reports indicate that a number of Afghanistani girls have resorted to online education as a result of the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on their educational opportunities. Despite the challenges, these resilient young girls are determined to acquire knowledge and education through alternative means.
