RASC News Agency: In response to the recent earthquake in Herat province and the escalating number of individuals in need of humanitarian assistance, Turkmenistan has stepped forward, announcing its unwavering commitment to providing aid. The Consulate General of Afghanistan in Mari, Turkmenistan, has confirmed that Ashgabat has swiftly dispatched three significant shipments of food, medicine, and clothing to support the earthquake victims in Herat province.
Turkmenistan’s engagement in providing assistance has garnered media attention and rightfully so. The country has disclosed that these three impactful shipments were efficiently transported to those affected by the earthquake in Herat province through the Torghondi port. It is commendable that Turkmenistan’s authorities have ensured these shipments were promptly handed over to the officials of the Taliban group in Herat province, anticipating their swift distribution among the earthquake victims.
As the residents of Herat province grapple with the significant financial and human losses inflicted by last week’s earthquake, the alarming reality persists that 90% of the victims are women and children, as reported by the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This unsettling statistic has been corroborated by Rina Amiri, the US special representative for women, girls, and human rights in Afghanistan. Amiri emphasized the urgent and essential role of female employees within non-governmental organizations, as they play a crucial part in aiding the victims of this devastating incident.
Given the circumstances, Turkmenistan’s commitment to providing aid to the victims of the Herat earthquake stands out as a beacon of hope. However, it is worth noting that the United Nations has previously expressed financial constraints hampering their ability to offer comprehensive assistance to those affected by the recent earthquake in Herat province.
Moreover, it is noteworthy that several other countries from around the globe have also pledged to dispatch humanitarian aid to support the victims of the Herat earthquake. This collective outpouring of support demonstrates solidarity and highlights the global community’s commitment to standing by those affected during these trying times.
