UN Secretary General: A World Without Hunger is Possible with Gender Equality

RASC: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says that in order to reduce world hunger to zero, a world without hunger is possible with gender equality.

Mr. Guterres tweeted this morning (Saturday, June 3) that gender equality leads to greater access to food for all.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations has emphasized that “when women and girls have better access to resources, decision-making and education, the result is increased food security not only for themselves, but also for their families and communities.”

This is despite the fact that after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, the prohibition of women and girls from the right to work and education has increased the level of poverty and hunger in the country.

Based on the statistics announced by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid in Afghanistan (OCHA), more than 28.3 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aid and about six million people are at risk of famine.
