RASC: Polio vaccination campaign will start today, Monday, May 15, in 217 cities in 23 provinces of the country.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health says that the campaign will continue for three days and 6.4 million children under the age of five will be vaccinated.
This year, a positive case of polio has been registered in Batikot city of Nangarhar province in the east of the country.
Last year, two positive cases of polio recorded in Afghanistan, which were in Kunar and Paktia provinces. This number is the lowest number of polio cases recorded in Afghanistan. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries that have not succeeded in eradicating polio. In the past, the vaccination campaign was not implemented in some provinces due to the war.
