Alliance of Human Rights Activists: Taliban Have Stripped Afghans of Peace and Justice

RASC News Agency: On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, an alliance of human rights activists issued a stark warning that the Afghanistani population remains systematically denied the fundamental rights to peace, justice, and security under the oppressive rule of the Taliban.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 21, the Alliance described the human rights situation in Afghanistan as “catastrophic,” emphasizing that the Taliban’s iron-fisted control has entangled daily life in fear, poverty, and pervasive injustice, leaving the country devoid of any genuine peace or societal stability.

The Alliance highlighted that women and girls continue to be barred from education and professional opportunities, while journalists, civil society activists, and community leaders face relentless threats, arbitrary detention, and torture. Many have been forced into exile, while others languish in Taliban prisons solely for exercising basic freedoms and civic responsibilities.

The statement also condemned the regime’s campaign of forced displacement, the systematic erasure of youth prospects, and the mass flight of Afghanistan’s educated and skilled citizens—clear indicators of a society in freefall under authoritarian rule. According to the Alliance, the Taliban’s governance is marked by a persistent cycle of violence: widespread torture, arbitrary arrests, and targeted suppression of dissent that is executed with alarming regularity across multiple provinces.

Local sources report that Taliban security and intelligence operatives routinely conduct mass arrests, enforce arbitrary restrictions on personal and collective freedoms, and intimidate communities into silence. Officials from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice are frequently involved in these operations, employing public beatings and harassment to instill fear, often targeting civilians without cause.

The Alliance urged the international community and the United Nations to take decisive action to hold the Taliban accountable, ensuring that Afghanistani citizens are protected from systematic abuse and that the escalating violence does not continue unchecked. Human rights defenders emphasized the necessity of coordinated global pressure to restore civil liberties, safeguard vulnerable populations, and counteract the Taliban’s entrenched impunity.

Marking the International Day of Peace on September 21, the Alliance underscored the grim reality that, despite the global celebration of peace, Afghanistan under Taliban rule remains trapped in a climate of terror, repression, and flagrant violation of human rights. The Alliance warned that without immediate international intervention, the Taliban’s authoritarian policies will further erode the social fabric, entrench gender-based apartheid, and deny an entire generation the opportunity for education, civic participation, and a dignified life.
