RASC News Agency: On the occasion of the 8th of Sawr, the anniversary of the Afghanistani people’s historic victory over the former Soviet army, the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan has issued a powerful statement, extending congratulations to the families of martyrs, the freedom-seeking citizens of Afghanistan, and all those who sacrificed in the pursuit of liberty. The Council called for the continuation of the national struggle until the full realization of justice, freedom, and a government grounded in the sovereign will of the people. “On the advent of the 8th of Sawr, the anniversary of the Afghanistani people’s liberation jihad against the former Soviet Union and its internal proxies, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all citizens of Afghanistan, particularly to the esteemed families of those who gave their lives for the country’s freedom and independence. We solemnly honor the memory of the millions of martyrs who fell during Afghanistan’s era of jihad and resistance, as well as the brave personnel of the country’s former national security and defense forces who stood valiantly against international terrorism,” the statement reads.
The Council drew attention to the roots of Afghanistan’s ongoing crisis, emphasizing that for nearly half a century, the nation has endured relentless war, poverty, and political disarray. It identified the origins of this chronic tragedy in both shameless foreign interference and the enduring legacy of domestic tyranny. “The roots of this protracted catastrophe lie deeply embedded in brazen external interventions and the historical internal oppression that have persistently undermined the nation’s sovereignty and progress,” the Council asserted. Recalling the monumental resistance against Soviet aggression, the Council underscored that the Afghanistani people’s jihad not only defeated the occupation but also “brought the imperialist designs of the Eastern Bloc and its puppet regime to a humiliating and irreversible collapse, erasing them from the course of history.”
Nevertheless, the Council warned that Afghanistan today faces a new, equally perilous form of occupation. “We confront a new era of oppression, wherein a criminal and terrorist group installed through an international conspiracy and sustained by external powers has seized control of the nation’s destiny, depriving the Afghanistani people of their most basic rights and holding them hostage in their own homeland,” the statement declared. The Council paid special tribute to the vital role of Afghanistani women, noting that “today, the courageous and free-spirited women of Afghanistan stand at the vanguard of the resistance against the forces of tyranny and backwardness. Their unwavering struggle has exposed the primitive and oppressive nature of the occupying group, forcing it to recoil in the face of their resilience.”
Despite the brutal suppression of free expression and the systematic closure of independent media outlets, the Council emphasized the indomitable spirit of the Afghanistani people: “Every Afghanistani citizen, wherever they may be, has become a voice for justice. A collective campaign against darkness and despotism continues to gather strength across the globe.” Reaffirming its commitment on this historic anniversary, the Supreme Council of National Resistance pledged to persist in its just and legitimate struggle: “We reiterate our solemn commitment to continue resisting, in unity with all political forces and segments of society, until freedom and justice are restored and a legitimate, people-centered government is established in Afghanistan.”
In its concluding appeal, the Council urged the international community and global institutions to cease all unilateral engagement with the Taliban. “This group, unabashed in its glorification of past atrocities, has transformed Afghanistan into a sanctuary for dozens of terrorist organizations, presenting a grave threat to the region and the broader world. We call upon all nations and international organizations to recognize the true nature of this group and to end all forms of engagement that risk legitimizing its rule and prolonging the suffering of the Afghanistani people.”
