RASC News Agency: Jamiat-e-Islami of Afghanistan has issued a forceful condemnation of Russia’s recent decision to suspend the Taliban’s classification as a terrorist organization, calling it a dangerously naïve misjudgment of the persistent threat posed by extremism and militant violence. The party warned that normalizing relations with the Taliban not only betrays the aspirations of the Afghanistani people but also imperils regional stability and undermines global security architecture. In a statement released on Friday, April 18, Jamiat-e-Islami underscored that the Taliban remain loyal exclusively to those foreign actors who enabled their violent resurgence and continue to prop up their illegitimate rule. “Any form of engagement with the Talibanca group devoid of public legitimacy and accountable governance is a perilous gamble with consequences that extend far beyond Afghanistan’s borders,” the statement read.
“The Taliban are an externally imposed regime, lacking organic roots among the people of Afghanistan,” it continued. “Nations that choose to ignore the enduring threat posed by Taliban rule will, in the long run, compromise their own national interests and jeopardize regional security.” The party warned that Russia’s move sets a dangerous precedent and cautioned against placing trust in actors that have long thrived on violence and ideological extremism. “To presume that extremist groups can be contained or moderated through appeasement is not merely a strategic miscalculation it is a catastrophic delusion,” the statement declared.
Jamiat-e-Islami also rejected the growing narrative in some international circles that presents the Taliban as a viable political actor. “Framing the Taliban as a legitimate political reality reflects a fundamental misreading of the Afghanistan context. The group neither possesses the institutional maturity nor the ethical framework required for constructive engagement,” the party stated. “Such misjudgments will only serve to entrench repression and fuel further instability.” Rather than legitimizing a repressive and ideologically rigid regime, Jamiat-e-Islami urged the international community to prioritize genuine, long-term solutions for Afghanistan. “The global response must move beyond short-sighted geopolitical maneuvering and instead focus on collective efforts aimed at fostering inclusive, people-centered transformation. Temporary validation of extremist forces will only prolong suffering and deepen the crisis.”
The party’s strong rebuke follows a controversial decision by a Russian court, which at the request of the country’s Prosecutor General approved the suspension of the Taliban’s status as a terrorist entity. The Taliban swiftly welcomed the ruling, describing it as evidence of Russia’s adoption of a “correct policy.” Jamiat-e-Islami’s warning serves as a stark reminder that beneath the diplomatic overtures and strategic recalibrations lies a painful reality: a nation still held hostage by a militant regime, silenced by fear, and stripped of democratic hope. As the Taliban tighten their grip, the world must ask itself whether normalization with tyranny is worth the cost.
