RASC News Agency: A group of Afghanistani asylum seekers in Germany has called on the German government to reinstate its resettlement program, stressing that their lives remain in grave danger under Taliban rule. Identifying themselves as human rights advocates, journalists, prosecutors, transgender individuals, and former government officials, the asylum seekers assert that they face severe persecution and existential threats in Afghanistan. They voiced profound fear over their precarious situation, emphasizing that Germany’s resettlement initiative represents their sole hope for survival.
They have urged Berlin to honor its commitment to Afghanistani refugees and immediately resume the program to provide them with a secure and dignified future. Their plea comes in response to recent remarks by Friedrich Merz, Germany’s incoming chancellor, who has declared that, upon forming a new government, his administration will suspend the refugee admission program including that for Afghanistani asylum seekers. According to a Deutsche Welle Persian report, Merz reached an agreement with potential coalition partners on March 8 to enforce sweeping restrictions on irregular migration.
Merz further announced that Europe’s largest economy will enforce the expulsion of undocumented migrants, including asylum seekers, from its borders. Additionally, he revealed plans to abolish family reunification rights for refugees under subsidiary protection status and expand police authority to detain individuals facing deportation. Despite these anticipated measures, Afghanistani asylum seekers insist that Germany must not abandon those at heightened risk. They urge the German government to uphold its moral and humanitarian obligations by ensuring the protection of vulnerable individuals in dire need of refuge.
