Ahmad Massoud: The Taliban Fear Women More Than They Fear Military Opponents

RASC News Agency: Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front, asserted that the Taliban have effectively imprisoned the women of Afghanistan, subjecting them to the consequences of their misguided interpretation of religion. In a virtual meeting held on Friday, March 7, in observance of International Women’s Day, Massoud remarked that the Taliban’s oppressive restrictions on women and girls in Afghanistan stem from their distorted understanding of Islam, a stance unprecedented in any Islamic nation.

Massoud emphasized that the Taliban’s primary fear lies not in their military adversaries but in the empowerment of Afghanistani women. He asserted that the women of Afghanistan deserve rulers who treat them with respect and dignity far more than the Taliban ever will, granting them the fundamental rights to freedom and agency. He further acknowledged the historical contributions of Afghanistani women, highlighting their consistent leadership in the struggle against extremist and authoritarian regimes, noting that they have always been at the forefront of resistance.

The leader of the resistance stressed that Afghanistan’s issues will remain unresolved until the Taliban’s ideology is eradicated from the country’s fabric. He underscored that unity and solidarity among the Afghanistani people are the cornerstones of the nation’s path forward. Massoud also condemned the Taliban’s manipulation of social media, claiming that they use fake accounts under female names to incite division within the Afghanistani population by attacking specific ethnicities and factions.

He remarked that the Afghanistani people have long suffered due to the flawed policies of both local leaders and the international community. Massoud concluded by stating that the Taliban fear women more than they do their military opponents, asserting that the Taliban’s internal belief is that “if you control the woman, you control the misfortune.” Looking ahead, Ahmad Massoud expressed plans to elevate and strengthen the role of women in the leadership of the National Resistance Front, ensuring their prominent participation in its efforts during the spring months.
