RASC News Agency: Rahmatullah Nabil, former chief of Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS), has warned that the Taliban remain an imminent global threat, urging the international community to recognize them as a dangerous terrorist entity. Speaking at the Herat Security Dialogue in Madrid, Spain, Nabil cautioned that if the world once again underestimates the Taliban’s danger, the consequences could be far worse than the September 11 attacks. “The world ignored the Taliban in the 1990s, which led to 9/11. If this mistake is repeated, an even greater catastrophe will unfold,” Nabil warned.
He asserted that the Taliban neither strive for global peace nor work in Afghanistan’s national interest. Instead, their rule has transformed the country into a hub for extremism and terrorism, fostering instability across the region and beyond. Nabil stressed that the Taliban have not reformed and continue to commit barbaric and terror-driven acts. He further warned that ISIS-Khorasan is not just another militant group but rather a ticking time bomb capable of unleashing chaos worldwide. “The global community overlooked ISIS in Syria and Iraq until it became an international menace. Now, the same mistake is being repeated in Afghanistan,” he stated.
The 12th Herat Security Dialogue, an annual conference organized by the Afghanistan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS), commenced on Monday, February 24, in Madrid. Attended by several former Afghanistan government officials, the forum focused on Afghanistan’s future and the rising security threats. Prior to this event, a separate conference in Vienna gathered anti-Taliban resistance groups and armed opposition factions. Participants reportedly agreed on intensifying military operations against the Taliban, signaling a new phase in Afghanistan’s ongoing struggle.
