Women’s Political Participation Network Urges Arrest of Additional Taliban Leaders

RASC News Agency: The Women’s Political Participation Network of Afghanistan has welcomed the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s call for the arrest of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the Chief Justice of the Taliban’s Supreme Court. The network has further urged the ICC to extend arrest warrants to other senior Taliban officials. In a statement released on Monday, January 27, the network described the call for Akhundzada’s arrest as a monumental milestone for the people of Afghanistan, especially for its women. The statement highlighted that the Taliban, over the past three years, have systematically violated the fundamental rights of Afghanistani women, engaging in actions that amount to crimes against humanity.

The Women’s Political Participation Network also pressed for the prosecution and apprehension of additional Taliban leaders, including the ministers of defense, interior affairs, higher education, education, and the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. Reiterating its unwavering commitment to peaceful and civil resistance, the network declared its determination to continue the struggle until justice and freedom are fully realized in Afghanistan. The statement underscored that without the inclusion of women and girls in public life, Afghanistani society will remain incapable of achieving true peace or progress. It concluded by affirming that addressing Afghanistan’s plight at the ICC represents the international community’s dedication to ensuring justice and honoring universal human values.

Over the past three and a half years, the Taliban have unleashed unparalleled oppression and tyranny upon the Afghanistani people, targeting them across political, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, social, and religious lines. Driven by their regressive tribal ethos, the Taliban have systematically excluded women from all spheres of life. Additionally, in countless instances, they have flagrantly violated divine principles, misleadingly labeling their actions as the implementation of Sharia law.
