RASC News Agency: Sources confirm that Hamid Qarloq, a prominent civil and social activist, has been released from Taliban detention. Civil and social activists have reported that Qarloq was recently freed from the Taliban’s custody. According to a statement by the group “Hamid Qarloq Advocacy Team,” his health and mental condition have severely deteriorated as a result of the brutal torture he endured during his imprisonment.
The statement condemned the inhumane treatment that Qarloq was subjected to while in Taliban custody. In a release on Wednesday, Dec 25, the group emphasized, “Oppression and suppression are no match for the unity and resilience of the people.” Civil and social activists have also called upon human rights organizations and the international community to take decisive action regarding the ongoing human rights abuses in Afghanistan and to advocate for the protection of civil society activists’ freedoms and rights.
Qarloq was detained by Taliban intelligence in Takhar province some time ago, without any formal charges being brought against him. Previously, the Women’s Solidarity Network issued a statement revealing that Qarloq had been involved in humanitarian efforts, including collecting donations for the reconstruction of schools, parks, and for assisting those in need. The Taliban has routinely detained and tortured civil and social activists on various unfounded charges, and over the past three years under Taliban rule, thousands of individuals have been arbitrarily imprisoned and tortured, with many subjected to corporal punishment.
The Taliban’s continued practice of arbitrary detentions has provoked widespread condemnation from both international organizations and Afghanistani citizens. However, the Taliban has remained indifferent to these protests, persisting in their actions despite the outcry.
