RASC News Agency: Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistani Women, Girls, and Human Rights, stated at a conference on Afghanistani women in Spain that international initiatives over the past three and a half years to improve the situation for Afghanistani women have been largely ineffective, with conditions deteriorating steadily. She urged unity among Afghanistani women, stating, “Please do not weaken one another. You must stand united and support each other, even when disagreements arise.” The conference, titled “Hear Us,” took place on Friday in Madrid, hosted by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was attended by the Spanish Foreign Minister, more than fifty Afghanistani women activists, and special representatives from various countries.
The event aimed to assess the state of women’s rights in Afghanistan and rally international support to improve their plight. The Taliban, during their negotiations with the U.S. in Doha prior to assuming power, had pledged to respect women’s rights and honor the human and civil rights of all Afghanistani citizens. However, three years into their regime, those promises remain unfulfilled. Instead, the Taliban have systematically displaced Afghanistani women, deepened ethnic and linguistic discrimination, and concentrated the country’s governance in the hands of a radical, extremist, and sectarian faction.
Far from countering the Taliban’s oppressive rule, the U.S. has funneled millions of dollars weekly to the group, effectively strengthening their grip on power and enabling further suppression of the Afghanistani people. This conference highlighted the urgent need for a unified and decisive international approach to address the growing violations of women’s rights under Taliban rule and to amplify the voices of Afghanistani women in their fight for justice and equality.
