Taliban Orders Ban on Hiring Female Professors in Medical Institutions

RASC News Agency: The Taliban Ministry of Public Health has verbally instructed medical and health education institutions to prevent the employment of women as faculty members. In an official statement, the ministry emphasized that medical institutions must block women’s presence within their organizations and prioritize the hiring of male professors instead. Additionally, the Ministry of Public Health issued a warning to medical institutions, urging them to refrain from hiring female professors.

Saja (a pseudonym), a female faculty member at a medical institute in Kabul, expressed her shock upon hearing the news. According to Agence France-Presse, “For Saja, studying nursing at a healthcare institute in Kabul had been her last chance to secure a future after the Taliban banned women from universities in Afghanistan two years ago. However, the Taliban’s latest directive to remove Afghanistani women from medical education has shattered this hope, causing widespread fear across institutions.” Saja further explained that the Taliban had issued a directive prohibiting the hiring of women as faculty members in medical institutions.

Ruqiya (a pseudonym), a professor at a medical institute in Kabul, recounted her experience: “One day, we received a notice from the Taliban’s administration, requesting that female faculty members not be hired. The notice also insisted that women not be accepted as teachers.” Last week, the Taliban implemented a ban on the education of girls in medical institutions, a decision that has provoked international outrage, with many demanding the reversal of the policy.
