RASC News Agency: The UN Women’s Division has expressed profound concern over the relentless oppression faced by women and girls in Afghanistan. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on November 5, the agency emphasized that Afghanistani women “have been deprived of their rights, denied education, confined to their homes, and are now prohibited from even speaking to one another.”
The agency further underscored, “This injustice is a threat to us all. Raise your voice for the women and girls in Afghanistan.” Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistani women have been systematically excluded from education and employment, and face increasingly severe restrictions. Recently, the Taliban implemented a “Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” directive, requiring women to cover their entire bodies and declaring the female voice as “awrah” (a source of temptation).
Under this decree, women are prohibited from speaking publicly, and even from singing in the presence of other women. Despite repeated statements of condemnation, the UN’s actions over the past three years have largely been confined to words, lacking substantial measures. If the UN is genuinely committed to the welfare of the Afghanistani people, it must pressure countries that continue to channel millions of dollars in monthly aid to the Taliban, urging them to cease support for this oppressive regime. However, such decisive action has yet to be seen, as the Taliban continue to function as part of a broader, covert intelligence agenda in the region.
