RASC News Agency: Local sources in Kabul report the arrest of a former Afghanistan military officer by Taliban intelligence, citing his involvement in suspicious activities. According to sources on Tuesday, November 5, Ghulam Nabi Baloch, the former officer, was detained two days earlier in the Karte Parwan district of Kabul. Baloch had previously served in the National Directorate of Security (NDS) under the former Afghanistan government.
Following the government’s collapse, Baloch reportedly fled to Iran, where he remained for approximately one year before returning to Afghanistan. In an attempt to secure the Taliban’s trust, sources reveal that he began advocating for the group under the pretense of representing the Baloch Council. Further accounts suggest that Baloch presented himself as a representative of the Baloch ethnic group in Nimroz province to position himself within Taliban ranks. The Taliban has yet to release any official statement regarding his arrest. According to a recent UNAMA report, five former Afghanistan military officers have been killed and 24 others detained in Afghanistan within the past three months.
Observers note that a number of former government officials and military personnel have turned into intermediaries and informants for the Taliban. Nevertheless, the Taliban continues to harbor profound distrust toward outsiders, even those who act as unpaid informants. Over the past three years, the group has repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to detain such individuals at its discretion unless they belong to the same ethnic or linguistic group as the Taliban themselves.
