RASC News Agency: Amnesty International’s South Asia office has denounced the recent assault on Shiites in Afghanistan as “brutal” and has issued a firm condemnation. In a statement released on social media platform X on the evening of September 14, the organization asserted that this attack signifies a troubling escalation in “deliberate and premeditated” violence against Shiites under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. Amnesty International has called for the immediate prosecution of those responsible for the attack and for urgent measures to safeguard the Shiite and Hazara communities in the country.
The statement emphasized: “The recent massacre of Hazara civilians is a chilling reminder of the rampant impunity in Afghanistan and underscores the urgent need for the international community to establish an independent mechanism for international accountability to address the widespread and systematic human rights abuses and crimes under international law.” It has been reported that the attack, which occurred four days ago when religious extremists targeted a vehicle carrying Shiites at the Dailykundi-Ghor border, resulted in 14 deaths and six injuries. This assault has provoked severe reactions both within Afghanistan and from the international community.
Human Rights Watch had previously responded to the attack, noting that since the Taliban’s return to power, over 700 Shiites and Hazaras have been killed in ISIS attacks across Afghanistan. Human Rights Watch has urged nations engaging with the Taliban to hold the group accountable for these atrocities.
