RASC News Agency: In a detailed analysis for the “New York Post”, Victor Davis Hanson argued that the Biden administration attempted to leverage political gain through the withdrawal from Afghanistan, aiming to end America’s two-decade-long war. Senior military officials echoed Biden’s misleading claims of a “safe” withdrawal, but rather than securing political advantage, the U.S. handed Afghanistan over to the Taliban and suffered one of its most profound humiliations.
Victor Davis Hanson, a distinguished fellow at the “Center for American Greatness,” wrote that numerous intelligence officials, both within and outside the Department of Defense, had repeatedly warned President Biden and senior Pentagon leaders that any hasty withdrawal would inevitably lead to the collapse of the Afghan government. Despite these grave warnings, Biden was fixated on ending the war to mark the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and to gain political points.
According to Hanson, in the pursuit of political gain, the U.S. not only faced unprecedented humiliation but also plunged Afghanistan into a grim future. The Taliban, who now govern the country, lack both the legal knowledge and the competence needed for effective governance. Hanson highlighted that critical recommendations from seasoned experts, foreseeing the dark consequences of a rushed withdrawal, were blatantly disregarded. As a direct result of Biden’s administration’s recklessness, 13 U.S. service members and dozens of Afghanistani civilians tragically lost their lives.
Hanson further stressed that following “America’s greatest military humiliation,” President Biden and many mainstream media outlets falsely portrayed the operation as a successful retreat. In reality, it was a catastrophic failure, leaving the Afghanistani people to the mercy of the Taliban. Hanson concluded by stating that Biden’s dismissal of expert warnings was a key factor behind this monumental failure.
