United Nations Security Council: Terrorism is the Greatest Threat to the World and the Future of Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: The United Nations Security Council, in a strongly-worded statement, condemned the recent terrorist attack by the ISIS group near the Attorney General’s Office in Kabul. The Council emphasized that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is one of the gravest threats to the peace and security of Afghanistan and the world.” It called for accountability for the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of such attacks and urged for their prosecution. Additionally, the Council called on all nations to cooperate fully with relevant authorities in accordance with their international obligations and the Security Council’s resolutions.

It is noteworthy that on Monday, September 2, 2024, a deadly suicide bombing took place near the Attorney General’s Office in Kabul. While the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior Affairs reported six fatalities and 13 injuries, a source from within the Attorney General’s Office under Taliban administration told Amu TV that the attack claimed 34 lives and left 22 others wounded, most of whom were prosecutors.

ISIS, which claimed responsibility for the attack, asserted in a statement that over 45 individuals, including members of the Taliban, were killed and injured in the blast. Reports indicate that all those killed were Tajiks from Badakhshan. Residents of Badakhshan suspect that this attack was an orchestrated internal operation aimed at ethnic cleansing.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of violence and the complex ethnic dynamics in Afghanistan, underscoring the broader regional and global concerns surrounding terrorism.
