RASC News Agency: Local sources from Khaybar district in Faryab province report that a man has murdered his 19-year-old daughter in this newly established district. The man, identified as Najib, was a resident of the village “Ziyaratgah” in Khaybar district.
A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told RASC, “Unemployment and poverty have driven many to desperation, leading some to commit suicide and others to the desperate act of selling their daughters. Poverty was the driving force behind this murder.” Simultaneously, other sources report that Najib severely beat his daughter, Kamela, on Wednesday night August 21, before ultimately strangling her to death.
The exact motive behind this murder remains unclear. According to the sources, the father has since fled, and his whereabouts are currently unknown. Taliban officials in Faryab have yet to comment on the incident. This is not an isolated case; previously, a man in Nangarhar had also murdered his daughter. Domestic violence is a significant cause of murder and suicide among women and girls in Afghanistan, a problem that has escalated significantly since the Taliban’s return to power.
Since the Taliban’s resurgence, there has been a sharp rise in mysterious killings, suicides, and domestic violence, including the murder and brutalization of family members for various reasons. Poverty and unemployment are major contributors to these tragedies. Following the Taliban’s takeover, poverty and unemployment have surged across the country, claiming countless lives. Many young people, unable to cope with the crushing burden of poverty and joblessness, have taken their own lives. Others have been sold into forced marriages or have been murdered by family members driven to desperation.
Under Taliban rule, poverty and unemployment continue to worsen, claiming more lives each day. Earlier this week, a woman in Nangarhar attempted to sell her two young daughters out of sheer desperation. Having reached her breaking point, she saw no other option. In the same province, a man killed his wife following a dispute rooted in financial hardship. Poverty and unemployment are escalating daily in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, leading to an increasing number of deaths, suicides, and mass emigration as people flee the country in search of a better life abroad.
